I've just implemented the solution as described above and it works beautifully except for one odd issue.
Having implemented the breadcrumb above the product list, every link in the breadcrumb except the last has "/products" replaced with "/admin" in the url!!! The result being when I try to navigate back up the product list via the breadcrumb I getting directed to the site admin page?

Any ideas?
