6000 categories!!! I never imagined anyone to have more than a couple of hundred.
Is there any chance I can get a copy of you Db, using the export of NBS. I'm currently building the new category back office editor and I've not allowed for paging! Looks like I might have too.
As for the speed of your site, I find the detail page to be loading in about 2 - 3 seconds. I did however then browser to the home page and a couple of other pages and it seemed slow. I would check the memory levels of you server, check if you not running out of resource at some pint and the server is swapping memory to disk to process, that tends to be a time consuming operation.
