The idea Jake suggested is a good workaround, just to add to this, if you use the models and stock control you could then use the download function of NBS.

So when a user buys a product/serial, they will be able to then download the serial in a document that is only available when a user has purchased the product.

I also think there might be a couple of drawbacks doing this and you would have to test it out first.
