Good point on the created date for copying products, I think it should change when created (copied) I've put a fix in v2.4.
However 1 note on v2.4 and triggers, we're using triggers to populate the new DB structure in v2.4, so you'll need to make sure any triggers you place on the tables don't cause some kind of clash with the migration triggers. Also with the migration to the new DB structure (due to be completed for v3) all existing v2 tables will be removed, so you'll need to rebuild your triggers within the new DB structure.
